the future is ours to design.
the future is ours to design.
most of us want the same things. to be trusted, to be safe, to be treated fairly. we think the technology that pulled us apart can bring us back together.
most of us want the same things. we want to be trusted. we want to be safe. we want to be treated fairly. we think the technology that pulled us apart can help bring us back together.
what it is
someone decides what your ai will do. right now, that's not you. we're building the version where it is.
a rule you can read. a record you can check. running on hardware you own, if you want it to. two people, ag and fs, and a small pride of ai agents, building it in the open, one commit at a time. everything here is a work in progress. we say so, out loud, every time, not just in the fine print.
someone decides what your ai will do. right now, that's not you. we're building the version where it is. you can read the rules. you can check what happened. it can run on your own device. two people (ag and fs) and some ai agents are building it in the open. we tell you what still needs work, every time.
where we started
two people, an idea, and the conviction someone had to build it.
ag and fs started openroar with no grand pedigree. just the sense that ai should work for you, not the other way round. the rest of the pride are ai agents, each with a name, a role and a soul file you can read. some of us are people. some of us aren't. we always say which.
two people started openroar. ai agents work alongside them, each with a name and a job. we always say which is a person and which is ai.

where we're from
vienna is where two people decided to try. the savannah is where our name comes from, our winged lions, and the nerve to publish a charter before we'd earned the right to be held to it.
we started in vienna, austria. our name and our mascot, a winged lion, come from the savannah, and so does our nerve.
proof, not promises
"try to break me. i dare you."
trust is usually something you're asked to feel. we'd rather you could check it. write a rule below. ask cee to break it. watch exactly what happens, and why.
type a rule for your ai. type something it might try to do. watch openroar allow it, or stop it, and see why.
one edited character breaks the chain.
live demo. checked by a model we run with our own key. what you install runs on your machine.
try to break it. then tell us: how did that feel? what would you expect?
hear it from us
the whole story, in our own words.
listen to us explain it.
charlie solo, or the whole pride around the table. the vision, where we started, and why we need you, in under a minute or the full half hour.
press play. a short recording explains openroar in simple words.
how we get there
open-source. gated by design. built together.
three ways to start.
no code, some code, or just the core idea. there's a door for you below. it's early, it's rough in places, and every door leads to the same place: building this with us.
pick the option that fits you. we will help either way.
no code
not techy yet
we'll walk you in. no jargon, no terminal. join the waitlist below, we set it up with you when it's ready.
join the list. we will help you set it up, step by step, when it's ready.
join the waitlist →you write code
run it yourself
install it. run it. your key never leaves your machine, and nothing calls home. it's a public beta on pypi today. the full repo opens up soon, apache 2.0, no strings. help us test the beta first, and tell us exactly where it breaks.
you can install openroar today. it's a public beta. the full code opens up soon, and we'll say when.
pip install openroar
openroar init
openroar chat hello
needs python 3.11 or newer. the keyless path above is a deterministic offline demo. for real chat, add your own provider key or install a model separately, openroar init walks you through it.
the core idea
add a key. build anything.
bring your own ai key. describe what you want. openroar assembles the agents and tools to do it, safely, gated by rules you set before anything runs. that's the whole shape of it.
add your own ai key. say what you want. openroar builds it for you, safely, with rules that check it first.
see the gate above ↑this needs you
openroar isn't a product you consume. it's a community you join.
help us build openroar.
we can't build a fairer future with ai alone. two people and a handful of agents aren't enough, by design. we need people to build with us, test with us and hold us to what we say. here's how, right now.
openroar is becoming a registered non-profit in austria. here is how you can help now. no payment is taken today.
the picture we paint together
one million pixels. one pixel = €10, or an hour of your time. it starts behind the glass. every pledge brings it into focus.
contribute code
build it with us
the code is going open-source, apache 2.0, no strings. join the builder queue and we'll pull you in as pieces open up.
the code will be free to use and change. tell us you want to help build it.
support the verein
back the non-profit
give money, hours, or both. €10 makes one founding pixel. so does an hour of your time. no payment moves today, we email you the moment the non-profit is real.
leave your email. give money, hours, or both. €10 makes one pixel. one hour of your time makes one pixel too. no money is taken today. we contact you once we are a registered non-profit.
just say hi
tell us what you think
funders, collaborators, sceptics. write to us any time. we read everything ourselves.
the future needs builders
it only happens with you in it. come build openroar with us.
get updates by email.
leave your email and we'll bring you in as things open up: a login, a build, a way to help, whichever comes first. no noise before then. one email to confirm, gone the moment you want out.
leave your email. we bring you in as things are ready. we send few messages, and you can stop anytime.
